If there’s one thing that 2020 has taught us, it’s that where there’s a will there’s a way.
From special luncheons to Happy Hours, exercise classes and Christmas celebrations, Glengara Care residents have discovered how to make the most of life during lockdown and relish fun-filled, socially distanced times together.
After all, life is meant to be celebrated, and at Glengara Care – which is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere – we do that especially well.
Life may not be quite back to normal just yet, but that doesn’t mean we’re not having fun.
Here’s just a taste of what we’ve been up to at Glengara Care:
Busy social calendar a team effort
While tightened COVID restrictions in NSW prevented many families from visiting their loved ones over Christmas, Glengara Care revelled in an occasion to remember with our residents’ lounge transformed with all the trappings of the festive period.
As these happy snaps reveal, Santa suits and reindeer antlers were the order of the day, with popular resident Ron Cottle climbing into his best bright red suit and handing out gifts for everyone.
Chef Craig Etches and his team meanwhile worked above and beyond to deliver a selection of fabulous food right across the holiday season – including special lunches for New Year’s and Australia Day too.
Glengara Care Manager Sharon Stuart-Gray said there was never a shortage of activities for residents to take part in.
“Residents are meeting once a month to help plot activities throughout the year, which means everyone is engaged and our sense of community spirit is always strong,’’ said Ms Stuart-Gray.
“Glengara Care’s busy activities calendar is a team effort, with recognition that maintaining regular human connection is more important than ever in difficult times,’’ she said.
“Christmas this time at Glengara Care summed up that sentiment perfectly.’’
What’s on at Glengara Care this month?
Every day is different at Glengara Care.
Bodies and minds will be kept active each week with light exercise and stretching classes, craft and hobby sessions, as well as movie afternoons, trivia quizzes, games, regular morning and afternoon teas and more.
And when we’re not keeping fit, we get together for a wide array of celebrations – some seasonal – and some, well – just because we can.
This month alone we’re getting set to celebrate a relaxing Valentine’s Day lunch. With oodles of chocolates set to star, it’s definitely one for the sweet tooths.
We’ll be awash with colour meanwhile on the last Friday of February as a tribute to Hawaii brings out all manner of varied and vibrant outfits, ham and pineapple pizzas, mock cocktails, fake palm trees and everything Aloha.
“While we have a lot of days to celebrate specific events throughout the year, we also put on days just for the fun of it – like our upcoming Hawaiian Day,’’ said Ms Stuart Gray.
“While the past year has presented some challenges, it’s important to remember that our residents have been still been able to enjoy some great times while observing strict social distancing.’’
